📖 Reading

Sara loves movies and music more than anything else. Every Friday night, she goes to the cinema with her best friend, Nina. Last Friday, they watched a new action movie. The music in the film was amazing, so Sara wanted to buy the soundtrack after the movie finished. At the moment, Sara is learning to play the guitar. She practises every evening after dinner. Her teacher says she is getting better every week. Sara's dream is to write music for movies one day. She thinks it must be a wonderful job because you can tell a story with sounds, not just words. Yesterday, Sara's favourite singer, Max Carter, released a new song for a famous movie. Sara was so excited that she listened to it five times before breakfast! She has never heard a song like it before. The song is already more popular than any other song this year. Next month, Sara and Nina are going to a concert in the city. They bought the tickets online two weeks ago. Sara thinks it will be the best night of the year. If the weather is good, they will arrive early and wait outside the concert hall to see the band.

🗣️ Speaking — discussion

Context

  • Movie soundtracks are an essential part of filmmaking—they guide our emotions and help tell the story without words.
  • From iconic themes like Star Wars to emotional scores in films like The Lion King, music can make a scene more powerful and memorable.

Themes

  • The Power of Music in Storytelling — How film composers use music to enhance emotion, build tension, and support the narrative of a movie.
  • Personal Connection to Film Music — How audiences remember and connect with movies through their soundtracks, and which film scores stay with us longest.

Warm-up

  1. Do you watch movies often? What kind of movies do you like?
  2. Can you remember a movie soundtrack or song from a film that you really liked?
  3. When you watch a film, do you notice the music? Does it make the movie better?
  4. What is your favourite film, and do you remember the music from it?
