Maya loves animals, so she works at a small zoo on weekends. Every Saturday, she gives food to the elephants and cleans their big house. The elephants know her very well. When they see her, they walk to her and wait for her. She talks to them quietly, and they listen to her.
Last Saturday, something funny happened. Maya had a new red hat, and she was very proud of it. She put it on a table near the elephants for a minute. One young elephant, Coco, saw the hat and picked it up with his trunk! Maya shouted, 'Coco, give it to me!' But Coco didn't give it to her. He put it on his own head instead!
All the visitors saw this and started to laugh. A little girl said, 'Look at him! Can you take a photo of him for us?' Maya's friend Ben had his phone with him, so he took some photos. He showed them to Maya later, and she laughed too. She said, 'I can't believe it. That silly elephant really liked my hat!'
In the end, Coco gave the hat back to Maya. She thanked him and gave him an apple. Now Maya always keeps her hat far away from the elephants. She tells this story to everyone who visits the zoo, and they always enjoy it. It reminds her that animals can surprise us every day.
