Last summer, Marta and her brother Tom went on holiday to a small village in Portugal. They didn't want a big, busy city. They wanted a quiet place near the sea, so they chose a small fishing village with only one hotel and two restaurants.
The first morning, they woke up early and walked down to the beach. The sea was cold, but the sun was already warm. Tom went swimming, but Marta didn't like the cold water, so she sat on the sand and read her book. In the afternoon, they rented bikes and rode along the coast. It was more relaxing than driving a car because they could stop anywhere they wanted.
On the third day, something exciting happened. While they were having lunch at a small restaurant, they met an old fisherman named Joaquim. He told them stories about the sea and invited them to go fishing with him early the next morning. Marta had never been fishing before, so she felt a little nervous, but she said yes.
The next day, they got up at five o'clock and went out on Joaquim's little boat. They didn't catch many fish, but they saw dolphins swimming near the boat! Tom said it was the best moment of the whole trip. When they got back to the hotel, they were tired, but they were also very happy.
Marta and Tom stayed in the village for one more week. Before they left, they promised Joaquim that they would visit again next summer. Marta thinks that small, quiet places are often more interesting than big, famous cities, because you can meet local people and have real adventures.
